New York’s Freest Art School, BHQFU, is pleased to announce [People Powered], an exhibition organized by Joygill Moriah for the 2015-2016 Foundation University Gallery (FUG) Fellowship. [People Powered] is an exhibition about recognizing the human spirit in a world that has reduced it to images, data, and content. The work in this exhibition requires participation in the form of Play, Hack, or Performance to come to life. Without it, these works will only hum, whisper and fade to black.
When we think about technology today, we worry about how our interactions may be manipulated by forces out of our control. Our concern is that our humanity is constantly being separated from any moments that could ever be really felt, experienced, or even remembered. [People Powered] is an exhibition about recognizing the human spirit in a world that has reduced it to images, data, and content. Despite this exhibition's timing during Internet Week, these works do not simply rely on the Internet. Instead, the artists had to hack, develop, translate and learn new technologies and languages to create these alternatives worlds for us to explore.
